Cracks in hands and feet
Annoying and painful, the cracks reveal breaks in the superficial part of the skin.
Our hands and feet are the first parts of the body to be affected by dry skin, due to poor blood circulation. Subjected to numerous aggressions in both summer and winter, the skin on our hands and feet is fragile. It dries out easily, which increases the risk of cracking.
Crevices are fissures of varying depths . They are lesions of the skin and mucous membranes that appear cracked. Crevices can be more or less deep and are generally painful.
Location of the crevices
Cracks can occur at the following levels:
- of the face (lips and surrounding area);
- hands (fingers);
- feet (heels);
- ears;
- breasts, in women during breastfeeding.
Cause(s)
Cracks can be caused by:
- a high sensitivity of the skin;
- dehydration of the skin caused by the combination of cold (and sometimes dry) and repeated contact with water (or saliva for the lips);
- a pre-existing skin condition (eczema or psoriasis for example);
- humidity and perspiration (especially in shoes);
- the baby's incorrect positioning during breastfeeding, which prevents them from properly latching onto their mother's nipple and damages it.
Preventing and treating cracked hands
What can be done to prevent chapped skin or speed up its healing?
- Use a superfatted soap when washing your hands and avoid harsh antiseptic soaps. What is a superfatted soap? It's a soap particularly rich in oils or butters. It's typically made with sweet almond oil or shea butter. This richness gives it nourishing and moisturizing qualities that protect and repair the skin's hydrolipidic film.
- Dry your hands by patting them with a towel
- Apply a protective hand cream several times a day, a cream suitable for chapped hands.
- Never go out in the cold without wearing gloves
- Always wear gloves for housework.
- Maintain a diet rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids during winter
Argola Cosmetics' tricks
To treat an established crack, apply a cream rich in vitamin E to promote healing. Use the cream daily after each wash and before going outside.
We offer a more intensive treatment that accelerates repair.
Apply pure sea buckthorn oil to the cracks (on damp skin to promote absorption), and pat gently. Follow with a rich cream. Repeat this treatment as often as possible for quick results.

Here are the products she used:
The moisturizing butter provides intense hydration to the epidermis; you can also use it on your legs if they are dry!
Pure sea buckthorn oil repairs and heals; you should apply a small amount and mix it with moisturizing butter to maximize effectiveness.
Pure oil can also be used on the face in small quantities, on wounds, burns, sunburn, rosacea, pigment spots; it's a wonderful oil for the skin!
