Our story: how Argola Cosmetics was born from a passion for natural skincare

A girl, a father, and a small orange fruit that changed the destiny of thousands of skins

Founder of Argola Cosmétique and her father, sea buckthorn producers in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, dedicated to skincare for sensitive skin.

One evening, this message arrived

"WOW! My cracked feet are healing. I apply your products to my face before bed and my skin is more radiant. My daughter has eczema and it really helps her. Thank you, I'm going to order some."

A few lines.
But behind it all: peaceful nights at last, a child who scratches less, someone who looks at themselves in the mirror again.

That's exactly why Argola exists.

Late 1990s: a crazy gamble in a village in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean

Saint-Eugène-d'Argentenay, Quebec.

Damien Gauthier plants something that nobody knows about: sea buckthorn.

They told him it was a "small fruit full of potential." No instructions. No market. No guarantees. Just rows of thorny bushes, harsh winters, and a tenacious intuition.

While the plants take root, his daughter Josée is already transforming living things. Owner of a cheese factory, she knows the invisible work: the precise gestures at 5 a.m., the consistency, the alchemy that transforms milk into cheese.

In the evening, between bills and fatigue, she immerses herself in research.
Sea buckthorn. Again and again.

And then, the lightbulb went on.

Omega-7 (a fatty acid almost impossible to find elsewhere). Vitamin E in record concentration. Exceptional regenerative capacity. Natural protection against environmental stressors.

It's not just a healthy fruit.
It's a treasure for the skin.

She closes her computer and already sees everything: hands that no longer bleed in winter, cheeks that regain their softness, red patches that finally subside.

The first tests that change everything

Together with her father, she takes action.
We harvest, we press, we experiment.

The first drops of oil shine like liquid sunshine. They are applied to impossible areas: heels cracked for years, chapped hands of working women, faces that react to everything.

No brand. No packaging. No marketing strategy.
Just results.

The returns are pouring in:

"My feet, which I used to hide even in the summer, look brand new."
"I forget to put some in and it still works."
"My 4-year-old daughter no longer cries when I put lotion on her."
"For the first time, my rosacea no longer burns."

It's not viral.
It's not photogenic.
But it changes lives, one skin at a time.

2006: Word-of-mouth becomes a movement

Josée starts selling. Slowly. A few jars handed over personally with a frank look:
"Try it and tell me the truth."

The customers are coming back.
Then they recommend.
Then they order for their whole family.

A colleague mentions it to her hairdresser. The hairdresser mentions it to a client. The client mentions it to her neighbor whose son scratches himself raw every night.

An invisible network is being woven. Based on one thing only: trust.

Today, almost twenty years later, these pioneers are still here. Some still write to us to share their photos. Others bring their daughters, who have become mothers themselves.

Argola was never built on advertising.
It was built on the impossible: results that cannot be invented.

ARGOLA: the name that contains everything

One day, we must name this thing that is growing.

Not a single trendy English word that sounds empty.
Not an abstract concept that can be forgotten in two clicks.

The name is an obvious choice.

ARGOLA.

AR — as in sea buckthorn, that robust plant that started it all
GO — like GOauthier, the father who dared to plant, the daughter who dared to create
LA — as in Lac-Saint-Jean, this land that nourishes us and that we refuse to leave

Three syllables.
Quite a story.

Every time you pronounce this name, you invoke a little bit of this territory, a little bit of this family, a little bit of this orange fruit that refuses to give up even in the Quebec cold.

To remain rooted where it all began

Argola could have moved to an industrial park. Optimized costs. Moved closer to major centers.

We chose to stay.

Saint-Eugène-d'Argentenay is not just an address on our labels.
It's a daily commitment.

Josée was born here. She wants her village to prosper, for the territory to be recognized, for young people to see that it is possible to build something solid without leaving.

Each field of sea buckthorn that blazes with color in the autumn.
Each batch pressed in winter.
Each pot that goes to Montreal, Vancouver or elsewhere.

It's a little bit of Saint-Eugène traveling on your skin.

Much more than a brand: a human chain

Argola has become a silent chain.

People who have already reached their limit.
They're at their wits' end. They're tired of trying. They've lost all hope.

Heels that we no longer dare to show in sandals.
A form of rosacea that devours confidence.
Another child waking up covered in blood.
Burning patches. Itchy patches. Insulating patches.

They tried Argola.
Observed.
Expected.

And they came back to write to us.

They describe it as having a velvety texture that finally glides on without pricking.
Eczema that is receding for the first time in years.
Itching that lets go.
Of skin that becomes livable again. Habitable. One's own.

These messages are not marketing.
These are pieces of life that are entrusted to us.

Each story reminds us why we get up in the morning.
Why do we continue?
Why we will never give up.

What awaits us: becoming the absolute benchmark

In the coming years, Argola will become THE essential reference for sensitive skin.

Not by multiplying the products each month.
Not by following TikTok trends.

By going deeper.

By perfecting our formulas to the point of excellence.
By sharing what we know about sensitive skin — without jargon, without panic, without empty promises.
By remaining true to what has worked for twenty years: sea buckthorn, rigor, truth.

Your skin deserves better than fleeting trends.
She deserves a lifelong ally.

If this story resonates with you

If you have already hidden your hands under the table.
If you cried in front of the mirror because of your patches.
If you have watched your child scratch themselves until they bled, feeling helpless.
If you are tired of endlessly trying products that disappoint you.

Please be aware of this:

Somewhere in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, a father planted shrubs that no one wanted. A daughter believed in an orange fruit that no one understood. And together, they created something that lasts.

ARGOLA.

A stands for Sea Buckthorn.
GO for Gauthier.
LA stands for Lac-Saint-Jean.
