Rosacea acne: soothe with natural products
Acne rosacea, also called simply "rosacea", is a condition that more and more of you seem to be trying to relieve, as you often write to me about it.
This condition doesn't really have much to do with acne, even though it partly shares the name, because it is a vascular condition: redness, hypersensitivity of the blood capillaries, and then only in a more advanced stage, pimples that resemble those of acne.
- Who is affected: particularly fair-skinned women between 40 and 50 years old. But everyone is potentially affected.
- Symptoms: redness in the central part of the face, swelling, tingling or burning sensations, followed by possible seborrhea (too much sebum) and pimples.
- The trigger: a circulatory abnormality of the small vessels of the face, non-infectious and non-contagious, but very inflammatory.
- What really helps: a protective lifestyle and very gentle care, possibly with essential oils to control the progression.
The first piece of advice I can give you is to choose gentle products for your skin, as it is very reactive. It's best to opt for products that are as natural as possible to optimize their tolerance. Every day, you will need to cleanse and moisturize your skin.
1) First, clean thoroughly
Remove your makeup if necessary with apricot kernel or jojoba oil. To do this, soak a damp, wrung-out sponge in the oil and remove makeup residue with a hydrosol, such as cornflower water.
Next, cleanse with a gentle gel or soap. Ideally, never use traditional soap on skin suffering from acne or rosacea, in order to maintain a properly acidic pH. After cleansing, spray with witch hazel or lavender floral water.
2) Next, moisturize and protect
Forget conventional cosmetics; they contain ingredients that can irritate your skin and increase the burning sensation you're trying to relieve. Instead, use a gentle, natural cream. Choose one with a short ingredient list.
3) Apply a serum with protective oils, for local use only. Apply 3 to 5 generous drops of this serum morning and evening to the affected areas, so only locally , and massage gently until absorbed. Don't worry, this serum has a strong scent, but it will fade. You can then apply your day or night cream over it.
Rosacea: Extra tips!
– Are you planning any outdoor activities? Then you absolutely must use your protective day cream over the serum.
In winter , or during periods of strong winds, shea butter is very protective and has a mild anti-inflammatory effect. To apply it, take a very small amount (about the size of a pea) in your hand, rub your hands together to warm and soften it, then apply it to your face. The oily feeling will disappear in about ten minutes as it penetrates deeply.
